Catgut Chromic Sutures Manufacturer

Chromic Catgut Suture is a natural absorbable suture and is obtained by longitudinally slitting the intestinal submucosa of sheep and goat, twisting the ribbons and joining them in wet condition giving monofilament finish. Catgut Sutures is absorbed by enzymatic hydrolysis and starts loosing tensile strength from 18-21 days on implantation.

These sutures are treated with chromic salt to enhance absorption period and reduce any adverse tissue reaction. Catgut Suture available in dark brown colour. Sterilized by sterilizing fluid containing EO, isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Also available:- Catgut Plain Sutures

- Catgut Chromic Sutures are treated with chromic salt and the suture colour is dark brown.
- Catgut Chromic Sutures are available from U.S.P. size 2 to size 4-0.
- These Sutures are made from longitudinally slitting the intestinal submucosa of sheep and goat followed by a process of twisting and polishing giving the sutures a virtually monofilament finish.
- Catgut Chromic Sutures absorb by simple enzymatic hydrolytic mechanism and absorption is not as predictable as in synthetic sutures. Catgut sutures tend to absorb faster in infected tissues.
- Catgut Chromic Suture retains about 50% of the initial tensile strength after 21 – 28 days of implantation and the suture is essentially absorbed within 90 days.
