Duracryl Plus · Absorbable Sutures
Polydioxanone Antibacterial Sutures
Duracryl Plus is a sterile, dyed monofilament polydioxanone absorbable suture with a triclosan coating intended to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture, engineered for soft-tissue approximation requiring extended wound support.
01
Monofilament polydioxanone construction
Composed of 100% homopolymer of polydioxanone in a single-strand monofilament design, offering a smooth surface that passes through tissue with minimal drag.
02
Triclosan antibacterial coating
Coated with triclosan, an antibacterial agent intended to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture at the site of application.
03
Predictable hydrolytic absorption
Absorbed through a simple hydrolytic mechanism, providing a predictable absorption process suited to procedures requiring extended wound support.
04
Extended wound support
Suited to soft-tissue approximation where longer-term tissue holding is desired, including oncology, geriatric and comparable extended-support applications.
05
Broad USP size range
Available in sizes from 6-0 through 2, allowing surgeons to match suture gauge to the tissue and procedure requirements.
06
Low tissue reactivity
Characterized in testing as Grade-1 with slight tissue reactivity, and supplied dyed violet for clear visibility in the surgical field.
What Duracryl Plus Is
Duracryl Plus is a sterile, synthetic monofilament absorbable suture composed of 100% homopolymer of polydioxanone. It is coated with triclosan, an antibacterial agent intended to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture. The suture is supplied dyed in violet to aid visibility within the surgical field and is indicated for general soft-tissue approximation and/or ligation.
Composition and Construction
The suture is manufactured from polydioxanone in a monofilament configuration. Because it is a single-strand construction, Duracryl Plus offers a smooth surface profile that passes through tissue with minimal drag. Absorption occurs through a simple hydrolytic mechanism, and the absorption process is predictable. In tissue-reaction testing it is characterized as Grade-1 with slight reactivity.
Characteristics and Handling
As a monofilament polydioxanone suture, Duracryl Plus is suited to procedures where extended wound support is desired, including applications requiring longer-term tissue approximation. The triclosan coating is intended to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture itself. Needles supplied with the product are made from 300-series alloy steel, and needle profiles include round-body and cutting geometries to suit varied tissue types.
Presentations
Duracryl Plus is available across a broad range of USP sizes from 6-0 through 2, allowing selection appropriate to the tissue and procedure. It is offered in multiple needle profiles, needle lengths and suture lengths, supplied in armed (needled) configurations for a variety of surgical applications.
