What this field asks of a material
Plastic and reconstructive closure is usually layered, and the layers have different requirements within millimetres of one another. Deep and subcuticular layers are closed with material that will be absorbed and never seen again; skin is closed with something that will be removed or that disappears on its own. Fine gauges dominate, which makes handling characteristics — how the strand passes, how a knot seats — more noticeable than they are at heavier sizes.
