What Mono AB Is

Mono AB is a sterile, synthetic, monofilament absorbable surgical suture within the Dolphin Sutures specialty range. It is indicated for use in general soft-tissue approximation and ligation, giving surgeons a single-strand absorbable option across a broad size range. As an antibacterial suture, its Triclosan coating is intended to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture.

Composition and Construction

Mono AB is made from poliglecaprone, a copolymer of glycolide and caprolactone (PGCL). Its monofilament construction means the suture is a single, smooth strand rather than a braid, which supports easy passage through tissue. The material is absorbed by a simple hydrolytic mechanism, and this absorption is described as predictable. The suture carries a Triclosan antimicrobial coating and is available both dyed violet and undyed.

Handling Characteristics

The monofilament design is intended to pass through tissue smoothly and to make knotting straightforward, with good knot security and easy knot placement. Reported tissue reactivity is slight (Grade-1). Needles are made from 300-series alloy steel and are attached to support consistent handling at the needle-suture junction.

Sizes and Presentations

Mono AB is offered across sizes 6-0, 5-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0, 0, 1 and 2, covering fine and heavier soft-tissue needs. Needle-armed presentations include reverse cutting and cutting profiles such as a 3/8 circle reverse cutting needle in 16 mm and 3/8 circle cutting needles in 25 mm, with suture lengths including 45 cm and 70 cm. Dyed and undyed options are available to suit surgeon preference and visibility requirements.
