01

Dual-sided composite construction

Composed of one layer of knitted polyester mesh for the parietal side and one layer of medical-grade low-density polyethylene film for the visceral side, fused into a single composite mesh.

02

Polyethylene film on the visceral side

The extruded, expanded low-porosity LDPE film is intended to act as a barrier on the visceral side and to minimise tissue attachment at that surface.

03

Macroporous polyester parietal side

The macroporous, hydrophilic polyester surface is intended to encourage tissue ingrowth and integration on the parietal side of the mesh.

04

Micropores for seroma drainage

The mesh contains perforations that are intended to allow drainage of seroma.

05

Low profile for laparoscopic placement

The thin, low-profile design is intended to support rolling and laparoscopic deployment, and a placement marker is provided to assist orientation.

06

Non-absorbable sterile prosthesis

A non-absorbable, sterile prosthesis supplied for single use in a range of shapes and sizes for open and laparoscopic ventral hernia repair.

What Ultralene Mesh Is

Ultralene is a sterile, non-absorbable composite mesh designed for hernia repair. The dual-sided prosthesis is intended to support tissue integration on the parietal side while providing a barrier on the visceral side. It is used for the reconstruction of soft-tissue deficiencies and is intended for use by a qualified surgeon trained in mesh implantation and the relevant surgical techniques.

Composition and Construction

Ultralene is composed of one layer of knitted polyester mesh for the parietal side and one layer of medical-grade low-density polyethylene film for the visceral side, fused into a single composite. The polyester surface is macroporous and hydrophilic and is intended to encourage tissue ingrowth on the parietal side, while the extruded, expanded, low-porosity LDPE film is intended to act as a barrier and to minimise tissue attachment on the visceral side. The mesh also contains perforations intended to allow seroma drainage.

Characteristics and Handling

Ultralene has a thin, low-profile design intended to support rolling and laparoscopic placement, and a placement marker is provided to assist orientation. Proper orientation is essential: the LDPE surface is placed against the bowel or other visceral structures, and the polyester mesh surface faces the tissue plane where ingrowth is intended. The mesh can be fixed with sutures or tackers. Selection of size, orientation and fixation method is at the discretion of the surgeon, based on the patient’s condition, the type and location of the defect, and operative requirements.

Applications

Ultralene is designed for use in:

  • Ventral / incisional hernia
  • Para-umbilical hernia
  • Umbilical hernia
  • Inguinal hernia — direct and indirect
  • Femoral hernia

Contact Sales
What is Ultralene mesh made of?
Ultralene is a dual-sided composite mesh composed of one layer of knitted polyester mesh on the parietal side and one layer of medical-grade low-density polyethylene film on the visceral side, fused into a single composite.
What is Ultralene intended for?
Ultralene is a non-absorbable prosthesis designed for the reconstruction of soft-tissue deficiencies, including the repair of hernias and chest-wall defects, in open and laparoscopic approaches where visceral contact is expected.
How is the mesh fixed?
Ultralene can be fixed with sutures or tackers, at the discretion of the operating surgeon based on the procedure and surgical technique.
Which way does Ultralene face?
Proper orientation is essential. The LDPE surface is placed against the bowel or other visceral structures, and the polyester mesh surface faces the tissue plane where tissue ingrowth is intended.
Is Ultralene absorbable?
No. Ultralene is a non-absorbable prosthesis intended to remain implanted as a permanent device unless removal is clinically indicated by the treating surgeon.
What sizes are available?
Ultralene is available in rectangular sizes from 6 x 11 cm to 30 x 30 cm and circular sizes from 10 cm to 15 cm, including 15.5 cm variants of selected sizes. Refer to the ordering table for codes and dimensions.
