01

Titanium dioxide surface coating

Each knitted fibre is covered by a high-purity, adherent titanium dioxide coating applied by chemical vaporisation, intended to improve the biocompatibility of the polypropylene mesh.

02

Lightweight monofilament polypropylene

A single-layer, lightweight mesh knitted from monofilament polypropylene, supplied in medium-pore and large-pore variants to suit different repairs.

03

Hydrophilic surface

The titanisation process makes the mesh surface hydrophilic.

04

Large-pore structure for seroma drainage

The large-pore knitted structure is intended to allow drainage of seroma.

05

Orientation stripes

Blue orientation stripes are incorporated to assist positioning of the mesh during placement.

06

Laser-cut edges

The mesh is finished with a laser-cutting process.

What Tiolene Mesh Is

Tiolene is a sterile, non-absorbable, lightweight mesh designed for hernia repair. It is a single-layer flat mesh knitted from monofilament polypropylene and coated with a titanium dioxide layer; it does not include a visceral anti-adhesion barrier. It is used for the reconstruction of soft-tissue deficiencies and is intended for use by a qualified surgeon trained in mesh implantation and the relevant surgical techniques.

Composition and Construction

Tiolene is knitted from monofilament polypropylene, and each fibre is covered by a high-purity, adherent titanium dioxide coating applied by chemical vaporisation of titanium over the polymer mesh. The titanium dioxide surface is intended to improve the biocompatibility of the mesh, and the titanisation process makes the surface hydrophilic. The mesh is supplied in medium-pore and large-pore variants; the large-pore knitted structure is intended to allow seroma drainage.

Characteristics and Handling

Tiolene is a lightweight, flexible mesh with blue orientation stripes to assist positioning, and it is finished with a laser-cutting process. As a single-layer mesh it does not have a distinct visceral barrier surface. The mesh can be trimmed to suit the repair and fixed with sutures or tackers. Selection of the pore variant, size and fixation method is at the discretion of the surgeon, based on the patient’s condition, the type and location of the defect, and operative requirements.

Applications

Tiolene is designed for use in:

  • Ventral / incisional hernia
  • Umbilical hernia
  • Epigastric hernia
  • Parastomal hernia
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Inguinal hernia — direct and indirect
  • Femoral hernia

What is Tiolene mesh made of?
Tiolene is a single-layer, lightweight mesh knitted from monofilament polypropylene, with each fibre covered by a high-purity, adherent titanium dioxide coating applied by chemical vaporisation.
Is Tiolene a composite mesh with a barrier side?
No. Tiolene is a single-layer flat mesh and does not have a visceral anti-adhesion barrier layer. It is supplied in medium-pore and large-pore variants.
What is Tiolene intended for?
Tiolene is a non-absorbable prosthesis designed for hernia repair, including ventral / incisional, umbilical, epigastric, parastomal, hiatal, inguinal (direct and indirect) and femoral hernia, in open and laparoscopic approaches.
How is the mesh fixed?
Tiolene can be fixed with sutures or tackers, at the discretion of the operating surgeon based on the procedure and surgical technique.
Is Tiolene absorbable?
No. Tiolene is a non-absorbable prosthesis intended to remain implanted as a permanent device unless removal is clinically indicated by the treating surgeon.
What sizes are available?
Tiolene is available in large-pore and medium-pore rectangular sizes from 6 x 11 cm to 30 x 30 cm. Refer to the ordering table for codes and dimensions.
