What Knit 3D Mesh Is
Knit 3D is the anatomical mesh in the Knit polypropylene range from Dolphin Mesh. It is a sterile, non-absorbable synthetic mesh with a three-dimensional, pre-shaped structure that is contoured to follow the anatomy of the inguinal region. The design is intended to adapt to the abdominal wall and to support placement and handling during laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. Knit 3D is intended for use by a qualified surgeon trained in mesh implantation and the relevant laparoscopic techniques.
Composition and Construction
Knit 3D is knitted from monofilament polypropylene. Polypropylene is a synthetic linear polyolefin, and the mesh is non-absorbable, intended to remain in situ as a permanent implant unless removal is clinically indicated. Rather than a flat sheet, Knit 3D is pre-shaped into a three-dimensional, anatomically contoured form and is supplied in dedicated left and right configurations. It is offered in two pore constructions — Macropore and Medium pore — so the mesh can be matched to the repair and the surgeon’s preference.
Characteristics and Handling
The pre-shaped, three-dimensional configuration is intended to follow the contours of the inguinal anatomy, to assist secure placement, and to support deployment and positioning during laparoscopic surgery. Selection of pore construction, size, side and fixation method is at the discretion of the surgeon, based on the patient’s condition, the type and location of the defect, and operative requirements. Knit 3D can be fixed with sutures or tackers.
