01

Monofilament polypropylene construction

Knitted from high-quality monofilament polypropylene yarn, Knit is a non-absorbable synthetic mesh intended to provide permanent reinforcement and support for weakened soft tissue.

02

Four variants

Available as Ultra Soft, Soft, Macropore and Robust, so the mesh can be matched to the repair, the defect and the surgeon's preference.

03

Laser-cut, sealed edges

Cut to precision with all edges sealed, intended to avoid loose fibres and reduce post-surgical inconvenience.

04

Thermally annealed

Thermally annealed to help prevent fabric curling and support flat, stable placement at the repair site.

05

Ultrasonically washed and packed

Ultrasonically washed and packed in internationally accepted, standard medical-grade paper for aseptic presentation.

06

Porosity for visibility and colonization

A pore structure designed to support visibility of the surgical field and tissue colonization as the mesh integrates with surrounding tissue.

What Knit Mesh Is

Knit is the brand name of the polypropylene surgical mesh from Dolphin Mesh. It is a sterile, non-absorbable synthetic mesh intended to provide reinforcement and support in surgical procedures involving soft-tissue repair and reconstruction. It is designed for the repair of inguinal, ventral, umbilical and other hernias, including primary and recurrent hernias, in both open and laparoscopic surgical approaches. Knit is intended for use by a qualified surgeon trained in mesh implantation and the relevant surgical techniques.

Composition and Construction

Knit is knitted from high-quality monofilament polypropylene yarn. Polypropylene is a synthetic linear polyolefin, and the mesh is non-absorbable, intended to remain in situ as a permanent implant unless removal is clinically indicated. The mesh is cut to precision with all edges sealed, thermally annealed to help prevent fabric curling, and ultrasonically washed before being packed in internationally accepted, standard medical-grade paper. Its pore structure is designed to support visibility of the surgical field and tissue colonization as the mesh integrates with surrounding tissue.

Characteristics and Handling

Knit is smooth, soft, strong and flexible, characteristics that support handling and conformability during implantation, and it is designed to minimise patient discomfort. It is available in four variants — Ultra Soft, Soft, Macropore and Robust — allowing the mesh to be matched to the repair, the defect and the surgeon’s preference. Selection of variant, size, configuration and fixation method is at the discretion of the surgeon, based on the patient’s condition, the type and location of the defect, and operative requirements. Knit can be fixed with sutures or tackers.

Applications

Knit is designed for use in:

  • Inguinal hernia repair
  • Ventral / incisional hernia repair
  • Umbilical hernia repair
  • Primary and recurrent hernia repair
  • Open and laparoscopic soft-tissue reinforcement
