Mesh, Fixation and Sutures for Hernia Repair
What abdominal wall reinforcement asks of an implant, and the range Dolphin Sutures manufactures for hernia repair.
What this field asks of a material
Hernia repair is a reinforcement problem rather than an approximation problem, which is why it is the one field in this list defined by an implant instead of by a suture. The decisions are what the implant is built from, whether any of it is resorbed, whether it has an orientation, and how it is held in position — and that last one is a separate decision from the mesh itself. Construction is described in the knowledge base; what is approved for a given repair is in the instructions for use.
What clinicians weigh
- Construction: knitted, semi-absorbable or dual-sided composite, and what remains in the long term
- Orientation, since a dual-sided composite is not symmetrical and the facing is specified in the instructions for use
- Fixation, which is chosen separately — tacks, sutures, adhesive, or none
What we manufacture in this area 11 products
These are the products whose instructions for use name this discipline. Approved indications, contraindications and warnings are stated in the instructions for use supplied with each product, and they vary by market — that document governs, not this page.
