Interrupted and Continuous Suturing
An interrupted closure places and ties each stitch separately, so every stitch is an independent unit. A continuous closure runs one strand along the wound and secures it at each end, so the whole line shares a single strand. The difference is how load and any failure are distributed.

Two arrangements of the same components
Both patterns use the same things: a needle, a strand, and a series of bites through tissue. What differs is how those bites are connected to one another.

It runs the length of the closure like any continuous suture, but its anchorage is distributed along the barbs rather than concentrated at knots — so it is continuous in arrangement without being continuous in the way load reaches the anchor points.
