What Makes a Surgical Knot Hold
Knot security is the property of a tied surgical knot resisting slippage under load. It is a function of the knot's configuration, the friction between the strands where they cross, and the suture material's own surface and construction — not of the suture material alone.
Why it matters
A suture strand and a tied knot are not the same mechanical object.
